McDonald’s McRib Shares Same Ingredients As Your Yoga Mat

You are what you eat! So all you Mickey D McRib fans out there, we hope you’re fixin to be a yoga mat, cause you could turn into one! That’s not entirely true, but a recent article in TIME mag’s Healthand blog points out that the McRib isn’t good for you (shocker!), though it’s not just the oodles of saturated fat (10g) and sodium (whopping 980 mg), it’s other fun stuff like azodicarbonamide, ammonium sulfate and polysorbate 80.

These components are in small enough quantities to be innocuous. But it’s still a little disconcerting to know that, for example, azodicarbonamide, a flour-bleaching agent that is most commonly used in the manufacture of foamed plastics like in gym mats and the soles of shoes, is found in the McRib bun. The compound is banned in Europe and Australia as a food additive. (England’s Health and Safety Executive classified it as a “respiratory sensitizer” that potentially contributes to asthma through occupational exposure.) The U.S. limits azodicarbonamide to 45 parts per million in commercial flour products, based on analysis of lab testing.

Mmmmm. So let’s get this straight, McDonald’s fries are to crack, as McRibs are to rubber shoe licking. We’ll keep our stickie mats underneath our body, not in it, thank you very much! Step. away. from. the golden arches.

Yes, indeed, that’s ALWAYS good advice !

Of course, the Yogis have already chosen the Mat over the Meat, anyway !

In India, McD’s set up shop about 15 years ago, and tried and tried but could barely get off the ground. Finally, McD’s came up with a Menu, that was more than 50 % vegetarian, and this kinder, gentler McD’s is doing reasonably well in India. The McD’s stores in India are actually split into a Vegetarian section, and a non-Vegetarian section, so there is no danger of utensils from the two sections ever getting mixed up !

However, the true vegetarians in India still stay away from McD’s, as they have ethical reservations about giving their Rupees to a Multinational Corporation that makes its Mega-Bucks by killing cows, chickens, fish, etc. !

Some of the vegetarian items on the menu of McD’s India are gradually starting to show up in McD’s worldwide locations also.

  2. And water is a key component of both soda and pesticides!

McRibs are pretty healthy, if you look at the macronutrients. A good spread of protein/fat/carbohydrates. Add an apple and it’s much healthier than, say, a vegan diet. However the McRib barbeque sauce is kind of yucky.

  3. As if we needed another reason not to eat at McDonald’s! Gross!

  5. McGross. I also just read that there is anti-foaming agent found in the chicken McNuggets. Just another reason to stay far away from the golden arches. That Ronald McDonald is a clown.

  7. Just love how uninformed people are about things, and that they will believe anything that is put in front of them. I bet that you all would ban Dihydrogen Monoxide for it is a constituent of many known toxic substances, diseases and disease-causing agents, environmental hazards and can even be lethal to humans in quantities as small as a thimbleful.

    • Dihydrogen Monoxide = WATER. Failue Mr. Adam.

Anyway… this is an interesting article, I can’t help but wonder if it’s true. You never know. :D
