Man Behind Kilted Yoga Receives Homophobic Death Threats – Let’s Show Him We Support Him

in Public Display of Yoga, YD News

Finlay-Wilson-kilted-yogaThis is not OK. Remember that captivating video that went viral? We loved it, and we’re pretty sure most of the internet did, too—with its 50 million+ views. But since the video went viral, the yogi behind it says he’s received some seriously terrible threats.

Yogi Finlay Wilson says he received a handwritten letter left on his doorstep. “I was warned in this letter that I should leave my home, along with me and my dog, because I was gay,” Wilson said in an interview with BBC Scotland’s The Social.

“The writers of the letter claimed that they’d been watching me for quite some time, that they’re watching my social media.”

In a separate interview with the BBC, Wilson explains how he was full of fear and panic at first, but then frustration and anger.

“I was upset at first, but now I am furious, because someone’s aim is to intimidate me and terrorise[sic] me into leaving my home because of their own bigoted beliefs.

“The people who do this sort of thing need to know that their views are unacceptable and the majority of people won’t tolerate it.”

The threat is being treated by police as a hate crime, as it rightly should.

A police spokesperson said: “Police Scotland does not tolerate hate crime in any form and everyone has the right to live safely and without fear.”

We’re assuming the offenders are not yogis, but you know, who knows these days? It’s downright awful that this is happening in today’s world. We stand with you against hate, Finlay Wilson, and want you to know that others do, too.

If you feel inclined to show your support for Finlay, please leave a comment below, or send him a message on facebook.

I’m sorry that your creative video elicited such a fearful response from someone. No doubt this person has lived their life ruled by fear, and unfortunately has taken it out on you. Keep on living your truth. xOx

I hope you know yogis all over the world enjoyed you sharing your video! I hope those people are caught and you can live your life without fear. Namaste

Sorry to hear this you should not have to endure these idiots who are trying to upset you and let’s hope the Police can catch this horrible person that’s been absolutely disgusting to Finlay. I hate all sorts of hate crimes and there should be more severe punishment for their behaviour

  • I loved your video! I thought it was empowering & would encourage more men to give yoga a try. I fail to see the homosexual content…except that it was two men practising yoga! I thought the kilts added a playful & humorous nod towards the age-old joke of “what a Scotsman wears under his kilt”.
Your sexuality has no bearing on your choice to practise yoga & absolutely no relevance to this video…unless some men felt a twinge of homo-eroticism while watching that they couldn’t handle in themselves!! 😉

  • Know that there are many more people with you than you can imagine. I wish you peace and safety.

I watched the video expecting that at least it would be inspiring? IT’S DULL AS DIRT.

It’s basically the yoga version of “Dumb and Dumber.” Seriously. Two doofy but ripped Scottish dudes without their shirts on. But most of the poses are just totally uninspired.

The prayer poses are meaningless, and=having the words FREEDOM and SERENITY appear on the screen adds zilch.

The “mood music” is some weird Asian frilly stuff.

The big draw? The final headstand when their kilts fall over their hips to expose their bare buttocks. Wowwwwwwwwwwwww DEEPPPP

Seriously, Ladies. GET A FUCKING LIFE. It’s utterly juvenile

I’m Scottish and it’s ALSO an insult. It’s not homophobic death threats they deserve — it’s patriotic culture-based ones.

But of course. the current yoga trend’s ‘s been insulting cultures the world over for some time. Alas, we can’t kill everybody, can we? There would be nobody left

Here’s the spoof of the Kilt Yoga video from Scottish tour guides — which also went viral —

And no goats? What happened to the goats? I thought we were suborning animals now to promote the cause?

Maybe some Scottish Red Deer standing in awe of their human counterparts….with a little cuddling at the end?

Well, the police seem to be on top of things, but he nice words from bambi and heather are going to help too! After all, yoga is all about support for really hot-looking strangers on the internet.
