YogaDork Giveaway: ‘The Living Mala’ By Nancy Alder And Liz Vartanian

in Giveaways!, YD News

Luck is a lady…times two! Or maybe that’s 108. We’re especially excited for this giveaway 1) because the book is co-written by two fabulous longtime pals of YD and 2) we really love it!

The Living Mala by Nancy Alder and Elizabeth Vartanian is just what the title suggests: a way to bring our intentions to life. In other words, bringing more of what you do on the mat off of it, too.

This is the kind of book you pick up and flip to any page for inspiration. You could also follow it page by page for 108 days, because it just so happens there are 108 actions—just like the beads on a mala—that help remind us to strive for presence not perfection. It’s not always easy to bring yoga into our lives, but this book is a tool to help make it happen even if it’s sometimes in the tiniest of ways. Practice, practice, practice…right?

More about the authors:

Nancy Alder is a mom, yoga teacher and writer based in Connecticut. Find her at flyingyogini.com and IG: @therealflyingyogini.

For every sale of either book this month 10% will be donated to Exhale to Inhale, a yoga organization bringing free classes to survivors of domestic and sexual violence. We will be making the donation for the three books in this giveaway.

I love being able to get outdoors and do any activity whether it’s a snow, ground, or water sport!

  • The color green abounds in Spring for us in Central California where “California Gold” is the general rule. I know it is Spring by the audience of strawberries, cherries and asparagus. Can it get much better?

I love watching everything grow – it’s a new chance, a great reminder we can start over.

I love getting out for hikes and runs as the snow melts and the plants bud.

I love that the days are getting longer! I love seeing the sun rising earlier and staying up in the sky later and later every evening.

My favorite part about spring is the lilacs. They are my favorite flower and it’s the only time of year you get to see them 🙂

The best part for me is when the daphne blooms! There are three bushes between we’re I park and where my yoga studio is, and I linger there on my walk to and from class and breathe it in.

  • I love that it’s starting to warm up @ that it feels fresh & new….a great time for new beginnings!

I adore how spring reawakens our energy. I see it in the faces of people who come to my yoga class as well as feel it in myself. Their faces beam bright with smiles walking to class in the warmer weather creates. Their bodies move with more vigor and life and their minds seem much more open to the challenges I present to them. When spring hits, so does the request for more advanced poses and my favorite; for the class to be held outside. Its simply a wonderful time of year!

I love the smell of damp earth right after a gentle rain, and the sight of fresh buds and blossoms on the trees!

I love that getting outside is much more low maintenance than most other times of the year. No hats, gloves, sunglasses, etc, needed just walk out and explore.

Spring = sunshine, warm breezes, long walks outside with only a sweater, and the happy shift from regular to iced coffee in the morning.

My favourite part of spring is the fresh maple products, syrup, taffy, butter… It reminds me of visiting my grandparents as a child, they always had maple taffy and syrup on hand to spoil us when we visited. Every time I taste the fresh taffy, it brings back so many happy memories.

My favorite part about spring is that it stays lighter longer!

I’m a primary (kindergarten) teacher and spring means putting on rubber boots and getting my little learners outside! We explore streams, ponds, mud puddles and anywhere else that life is waking up.

  • I love the promise and new energy of spring.

I was born on the Spring Equinox, so I celebrate like crazy! When my apple, cherry, and plum trees start to bloom, I feel like they’re celebrating with me. And I get to do my yoga outside on the patio! Welcome, Spring!

  • Kate

I’m totally transformed by more sunshine in my days. Love the spring transition.

The thing I love most about spring is something I learned from a teacher very long ago. She would always say, “Spring has sprung, the grass is riz, don’t forget where you mind is”. It always seemed so silly, but I link it directly to warmer weather, my constant desire to be in the world and to be present. I can feel the saying once the weather starts to shift away from winter, it is my yearly reminder to be here, now.
