Did you guess? We know, tough one, but if you said Santiago, Chile you win! What do you win? A free yoga class any time you’re traveling through the Nuevo Pudahuel airport in the South American country. You and the 18 million travelers estimated to be flying through their gates this year.
(By the way, if you guessed the Rio de Janeiro-Galeao Airport in Brazil…good one! And a good idea, but unfortunately, no.)
As of July 25, the Santiago International Airport is offering three free classes a week during peak travel times for passengers biding their time waiting for lengthy international flights. A stress-relieving alternative to your standard mulling about listlessly, browsing overpriced gift shops, and incessantly scrolling through your facebook feed.
For now the classes, which are led by teachers from local studios, are just Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays 5:30-7pm, but based on popularity we could see those expanding at some point.
We’ve seen free airport yoga spring up across the U.S., over the pond in London and even Helsinki. This is the first time we’ve heard about anything in South America. The folks at Nuevo Pudahuel are so excited about their new yoga classes they made this cute video to announce them.
The free yoga classes are held at Gate 15 in the international departures lounge. Find the schedule and more info here. We assume the classes will be held in Spanish but you might want to check on that. Yoga’s universal anyway, right?
Happy airport yogaing!
