They call it “a counterpoint to New Year’s Eve” — the Summer Solstice Yoga in Times Square is already underway, ringing in the longest day of the year with sun salutations and down dogs in NYC’s busiest intersection. By comparison, the yoga area seems like a such a small portion of the “Crossroads of the World,” but organizers say they “anticipate returning to a much larger capacity in 2017.” So if you didn’t get in this year, better luck next year. (And please do not buy or sell the free spots! We’ve already seen offers being made or requested. Sheesh.)
In any case, the day’s schedule is packed with classes running from 5am through 7:30pm, and of course, there’s no lack of corporate sponsors. But, so it goes!
If you weren’t able to make it this year, you can always check out the live feed below, though the viewing party is a little different this time with each class being separately broadcast through the Times Square facebook page.
Or you can also visit the Times Square earthcam for a pigeon’s eye view (the south view is pretty good yoga section observing).
Here are the first two classes from 5am and 7am…we’ll be adding more throughout the day.
Here’s the full schedule:
5:00am – 6:00am: Tim Tompkins (Times Square Solstice co-founder)
7:00am – 8:00am: Tracye Warfield (Bikram)
9:00am – 10:00am: Sarah Bell (YogaWorks)
11:00am – 12:00pm: Rashmi Galliano (Integral Yoga)
1:00pm – 2:30pm: Jennifer Lobo (Bikram)
