This Year’s Summer Solstice Yoga In Times Square Is On A Monday (Your Boss Will Understand)

Ready or not, summer’s here! OK, almost here. And it’s time for massive outdoor yoga events. Marking the season’s grand commencement, of course, is the annual Solstice Yoga in Times Square which just opened for registration today. For over 10 years, yogis have taken to the center of sweaty NYC (the world?) to salute the sun and welcome in the longest day of the year. For 2016 the Solstice (June 20) falls on a Monday so you know what that means…time for an extra long lunch break! Or maybe even the day off if you’re feeling especially solar rogue. Summer Solstice isn’t a federal holiday yet?

Last year the event teamed up with the controversy-filled first International Yoga Day. So far there hasn’t been a word about it from the Solstice Yoga organizers.

The classes run from 7am to 7:30pm and are free and HEAVILY sponsored, yay commercialism, but they do give you an opportunity to donate during registration to these great non-profit organizations, which is nice: Bent on LearningExhale to InhaleLiberation Prison Yoga, Urban Zen.

Here’s the schedule:

7:00am – 8:00am: Bikram with Tracye Warfield
9:00am – 10:00am: Sarah Bell (YogaWorks)
11:00am – 12:00pm: Rashmi Galliano (Integral Yoga Institute)
1:00pm – 2:30pm: Bikram Yoga by Donna Rubin & Friends
3:30pm – 4:30pm: Elena Brower (Elena Brower, Inc.)
5:30pm – 6:30pm: Douglass Stewart (ISHTA Yoga)
7:30pm – 8:30pm: Cyndi Lee (formerly Om yoga Center)

You can register here. Those who can’t make it can yoga vicariously through the live webcast.
