When Yoga Becomes A Punchline At The GOP Debate

in Public Display of Yoga, YD News

rubio-trump-cruz-yogaIn case you missed it, the public clusterfluffle known as a political debate turned into a yoga moment last Thursday night when GOP candidates got into yet another back and forth bicker match.

It all started when Senator Ted Cruz instructed Donald Trump to “breathe, breathe,” trying to be funny, but it was Senator Marco Rubio who seized the moment for a well-timed yoga joke.

“When they’re done with the yoga, can I answer a question?” Rubio chimed in from off-camera to chuckles from the audience.

“You cannot. I really hope that we don’t see yoga on this stage,” Cruz answered.

To which Rubio replied, “Well he’s very flexible, so you never know.”

Zing!

Tip your candidates, they’ll be here all night.

We happened to be watching all of this play out (for reasons still unknown to us) and posted the clip right away, but in case you missed it, here’s the youtube clip. It’s cantankerous candidate comedy gold.

  • Somehow, when anyone of those three even mention yoga/meditation, I cringe. They don’t hold respect for much of anything and surely not the yogic path. The whole spectacle is so hard to watch and even harder to think what will happen if any one of them become our country’s leader.

Thank goodness I stopped watching TV years ago.

Some yoga teachers have much in common with politicians. Being adept at putting on a public facade. Spouting feel good aphorisms to their audience. Proficiency in adapting to whatever is currently expedient and reinventing their image.

lighten up folks. It was a funny moment, and god knows we need it this election season.
