‘Nap Desk’ Could Make Your Over-Worked Dreams Come True

in YD News

If you’re a desk dweller, the end is nigh! We’ve heard that a lot, the bad things that can happen from sitting for too long. It’s true, we as modern people just don’t get up and MOVE enough. Some people swear by standing desks, which are a great alternative to get you on your feet, if you don’t slouch while you’re standing, too. But, no, maybe that’s not the whole answer. Maybe what we need is not to get UP but to lay down…for a nap!

Introducing, the nap desk. A desk that – surprise! – converts into a cot.

It’s sort of brilliant, and it’s also sort of depressing. People are working so hard and spending so much time at their desks that they need to actually sleep there. Work-life balance is all sorts of screwed up. Then again, naps can be super helpful for a quick pick-me-up during the day, especially if you’re not getting enough sleep at night, which is all too common. The bottom line is we need more breaks in general.

The designer of the desk, Athanasia Leivaditou of NL Studio, explains how the nap desk is a commentary on our “shrinking” habit.

“The main concept was to comment on the fact that many times our lives are ‘shrinking’ in order to fit into the confined space of our office,” Leivaditou said. “Eventually, I realized that each civilization may have a very different perception of things depending on its social context. For example, this desk could be used for a siesta or for a few hours of sleep at night on those days when someone struggles to meet deadlines.”

Install a treadmill, a yoga mat and the latest live and interactive yoga class streaming on the screen and forget home, you can just live at work! Oy.

Seriously though, midday yoga and meditation breaks are also a nice refresher. Reset. button. pressed.

If you work in an office, it’s highly unlikely your boss is going to spring for a nap desk remodeling – though they probably should! Try this genius invention instead. Yoga nidra dreams come true…zzzzz.
