Hey, we’re giving away this book!
Goldie Hawn is not just a famous Academy Award-winning actress, she’s also an author and a huge advocate for mindfulness. (If you don’t know Goldie as an actress, please put Overboard, Wildcats and The First Wives Club on your queue right now.) Goldie Hawn’s books, A Lotus Grows in the Mud and 10 Mindful Minutes put her on the New York Times best-selling list. Her new book 10 Mindful Minutes: A Journal, which just dropped on Tuesday, switches up the format, becoming an extension of her previous work to invite the reader with prompts, quotes, and journaling space encouraging us all to take a moment.
We admit, we had some reservations when first being contacted by the publicist about this. Goldie Hawn has a book about mindfulness? But when we received a copy in the mail we saw immediately how lovingly it was made and how useful this kind of book is to someone needing to make time to unwind, reflect and be mindful in the moment (read: everyone).
Digging deeper, we discovered that Goldie Hawn has been active in the mindfulness sphere for a while now. She is founder of The Hawn Foundation which focuses on bringing children mindfulness practices through the MindUP curriculum an evidence-based training program. MindUP “equips children, educators and parents with vital social and emotional literacy skills, helping them increase focus, improve academic performance, reduce stress, gain emotional resilience and optimism.”
Check out this passionate and informative video from Goldie if you want more info about her program and her inspiration.
Back to the book.
SO…10 Mindful Minutes: A Journal is divided into specific meditative exercises so you can pick and choose where you want to dig in that day, such as “Transforming Anger,” “Releasing Sadness” or “Sitting with Fear.”
We’ve been told by friends and experts that journaling can be a really helpful, often therapeutic thing to do, and heaven knows we do our best to squeeze it in every day. OK, every other day? What we love most about a book like this is that it gives something to tip you off, a theme to focus on, so that you don’t sit staring at a blank page wondering what you should write about — should I start with how I ran out of milk for breakfast this morning? Or maybe how found a dollar in my jacket pocket? See? It’s harder than it looks.
Here’s more about the book via Amazon:
This journal provides prompts and exercises to guide you to a fuller practice of mindfulness no matter what your current level of experience. Inspired by Goldie’s 10 Mindful Minutes, which offered parents “simple and effective ways…to create calmer, kinder, happier families” (USA TODAY), this work helps anyone focus on specific qualities–from optimism or gratitude to anger or fear–that can be enhanced or helped by a meditative practice. The prompts, which address these specific desires or concerns, are supported by Goldie’s own observations and reflections as well as simple yet effective exercises that will help you strengthen your own resolve.
