Very Cali, and very “The O.C.”
We warned you about it and now it’s here. It’s pilot season for Amazon Studios and the new yoga comedy “Down Dog” is up for your viewing pleasure. And based on viewers’ ratings you can help decide its fate.
Meet Logan, a pretty-faced playboy Cali stoner turned rockstar yoga teacher. He’s never really done too much in his life and finally decides it’s time for a change. “What could he do where he wouldn’t have to work hard, earn enough money to live on, but that didn’t require an education?” HA. You guessed it. Logan became a yoga teacher and studio-co-owner with his girlfriend. Life is good, or so it seems, but rarely do things ever go as planned, right?
The official “Down Dog” premise:
A handsome, carefree yoga instructor has breezed through life, women, and jobs, but when he breaks up with his girlfriend — who’s also his partner at their successful yoga studio — he’s forced to face reality for the first time. A satirical look at LA’s yoga culture that stars Josh Casaubon (I Just Want My Pants Back), Paget Brewster (Criminal Minds), and Kris Kristofferson (Lone Star).
Complete with the vegan aw, screw it “I’m just gonna have the hamburger” jokes, plays on materialism, big ‘ol buddhas, Rodney Yee name-dropping, plus sex, drugs and meatheaded, yet supportive male friends who don’t understand women, and women who are emotional, sex-starved and overreactive, “Down Dog” is certainly the slickest acting and production we’ve seen in the yoga comedy genre (in a good way), but it’s a bit too much on the sitcom-y surface without much substance as far as characters and plot go, even for a yoga satire. You might say it’s half-baked, but it’s still sweet. You might also find the music somewhat recycled; they’re A.R. Rhaman tracks made world famous in a little film called Slumdog Millionaire.
Still, it’s just the pilot episode so maybe it’ll get better. We’d probably watch at least a few more episodes just out of curiosity. Check it out for yourself on Amazon and let us know what you think. Note: There is gratuitous sex and pot use.
You can rate and review all of the current pilots and help Amazon pick which will see the light of full seasons.
The universe had big plans for Logan. Does it include a greenlight on a new Amazon yoga comedy series?

hunks show, also has lady hunks but at least everyone is a bit horrible.
We found it more than mildly amusing at our house. It’s not Arrested Development, but it’s cute, funny, and it has some potential.
I’m stoked for Yogatainment. I could do without the sex scenes and the curse words, but overall this was quite funny.
