Not an actual photo from the show, but we imagine it to be an accurate depiction.
We may get our yoga TV show after all. While we wait on pins and needles for the yoga reality show we’ll have to just be satisfied with an Amazon-produced yoga-based comedy web series coming to a small screen near you in early 2015. Unremarkably titled Down Dog the series is based on Logan Wood, a “thirtysomething California slacker” who teaches yoga at his soon-to-be ex-girlfriend’s studio. The Logan character has also been described as a “heart-stoppingly gorgeous surfer, devoid of ambition, a Peter Pan who has been sliding through on his charisma, laid-back easy charm and good looks but must now start to take life seriously when he’s left in charge of his ex-girlfriend’s yoga studio.” So, you know, all sorts of pretty-faced slacker/yoga hijinks could occur!
Here’s the premise via Variety:
“Down Dog”: Comedy about late-30s Southern California yoga instructor Logan Wood (played by Josh Casaubon, “I Just Want My Pants Back”). Wood’s life gets complicated after he breaks up with his girlfriend, an older woman named Amanda who owns the yoga studio (played by Paget Brewster, “Criminal Minds”). “Down Dog” also stars Lyndsy Fonseca (“How I Met Your Mother”), Will Greenberg (“Halt and Catch Fire”), Andrea Savage (“The Life and Times of Tim”), Amir Talai (“American Dad”), Kris Kristofferson (“Lone Star”) and Alysia Reiner (“Orange Is the New Black”). The pilot is written by Robin Schiff (“Are You There, Chelsea?”), produced by Bob Cooper (“RFK”) and Michael Fuchs (“Death in the Modern Age”), and directed by Bradley Silberling (“Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events”).
Interestingly, like with previous Amazon Studios’ pilot releases, viewers will be able to comment on the shows and give them ratings, playing a part in which shows Amazon will ultimately decide to push into a full web series via Prime Instant Video, like the highly-praised Transparent.
Down Dog is one of seven titles queued for Amazon’s pilot season, so if it’s terrible there’s a good chance it won’t come to true fruition. Then again, if it actually succeeds in being funny and entertaining, we might have ourselves the very first yoga-centric “TV” show we’ll be able to both stomach and laugh about. And let’s be honest, we’d pretty much watch anything with Kris Kristofferson in it. But, if it’s any consolation, Amazon Studios brass at least seem pretty excited about it.
“Our first pilot season of 2015 brings some of the greatest storytellers in the business to Amazon customers with works of novelty and passion. We’re very excited by these shows and look forward to getting customers’ reactions next year,” Amazon Studios VP Roy Price told Variety.
We’ll bite, Mr. Price. And we’ll be sure to let you know if you’re barking up the wrong tree.
