NY Yogis Give Texas Gov. Rick Perry Big FU on ‘The Daily Show’

in Daily Show Dog, Yoga Pop

This clip of comedian Lewis Black on ‘The Daily Show’ Wednesday night is pretty hilarious, unless you’re from Texas. Even then, it’s hard to deny that Texas Governor Rick Perry got what we had coming to him when he tried to infiltrate NY and lure businesses away to the Lone Star State.

Of course, Lewis Black fights back in his true “Back in Black” fashion by enlisting the help of fellow New Yorkers, including interesting choice NYC yoga studio co-owner Dana Flynn and other yoga students, to tell Texas to eff off.

“We may all come from different places, but we all agree on one thing…”

They didn’t say “Fuck you, Rick Perry!” , they said “Fuck you, Texas!” I dunno. Dana Flynn has presented at least the last three Texas Yoga Conferences in Houston. Do ya think she’ll be back in 2014?

    • i wish the whole state of texas didn’t get judged for rick perry and all the crazy old white republicans that are (hopefully) on their way out. there are really lovely vibrant yoga communities in all the major cities!

It is played for a laugh after all. It’s a joke, you know? Can’t Texas take a joke? Don’t add a lack of a sense of humor to the list of negative things Texas is known for!

  • Where would I be without Yogadork to keep me up-to-date on all this hilarity!

Anything FU is decidedly not yogic.

    • I have to agree with you there, Tina. Nonetheless, my bad angel still made laugh out loud! Bad bad angel.

So, its not yogic to have a spine and stand up to fools who can’t handle the idea that freedom doesn’t mean everybody has to believe the same things they do?

  • Tina

    🙂

“anything FU is not yogic?” C’mon people.. it’s a joke! is laughing not yogic?

    • Gee, Michelle. I agree with you, too. Now I’m really confused! 🙂

Agreed. As far as I know, its not unyogic to have a spine and stand up to fools.

I agree, Michelle. The other day I saw some kids laughing at a blind boy trying to pick up his books. Very yogic, indeed.

Why is Bob W. Making so many dumb comments?

  • I’m not a New Yorker nor a Texan. But one thing I can say, Rick Perry is as smart as Sarah Palin. Perry should go to Alaska to recruit. After all, with Texas’ great new abortion laws, it’s a 21st century state. And Richard Perry has helped to build it! Sorry Austin!

I laughed so hard when I saw this on Daily! Any mashup that includes Lewis Black and yogis is okay with me. (I’m also a fan of the “Namaste MoFo” t-shirts, but I don’t know that I would wear one to class…)

  • There are really people who are too sensitive, they cannot appreciate jokes, about them, you are insulting or making fun out of it. Guess, each person has really their own preferences.

    • James

I’m sure you can “appreciate” this, Kurt:

      Fuck you.

  • James

Let’s all be honest here. The only reason this video is (apparently) being well-received here is because this community accepts insulting this particular group (Texans). Had this been a video saying “fuck you, Yoga Community” (or any other group the YD community likes) the humor of it would be lost.

Condoning this sort of behavior is no different than telling your kids it’s OK to mock a boy for being a sissy and doing yoga as long as most everyone else is mocking him, too.

There are no clever jabs here. There is no satire.

It seems like a good idea for a governor to try and get businesses to operate in his state regardless of his party affiliation. I doubt most of you would fault Obama for trying to convince businesses to operate in the US.

Lewis Black is better than this.

    • C Daniels

Actually, if the yoga community, or even just a vocal group of yogis was running a campaign to take jobs away, I would laugh at an FU. And Lewis Black IS being satirical. Apparently you just don’t get it.
The comparison to Obama is ridiculous. I’m pretty sure he is not trying to tell businesses to come to American by leaving their country of origin, and if he did i would be angry and upset about it. In my mind (liberal, BTW) he would be embarrassing our country if he did so.
The phrase “thin skinned” comes to mind.

The next time I read a weblog, I hope that it doesnt disappoint me as a lot as this one. I imply, I know it was my option to read, but I actually thought youd have one thing fascinating to say. All I hear is a bunch of whining about something that you can repair if you happen to werent too busy on the lookout for attention.
