Get ready to waste more of your time on facebook! It’s The Sims meets Farmville meets a virtual yoga retreat. Because, hey what’s second best to actually going on a retreat to a tropical paradise? Pretending you’re at one on your computer! Finland’s Gajatri Studios has created what they deem to be the “first social management game derived from authentic well-being and yoga content” (read: potentially incredibly addictive “friendly” time-waster) based on the brainchild of yoga enthusiast Tiina Zilliacus.
Do we need more virtual distractions and “social management” games?
According to the press release this is relaxing AND educational:
Yoga Retreat aims to give players a relaxing gaming experience while sat at their desk and at the same teaching genuine Hatha moves, as well as introducing real world yoga philosophies. Players will build up their virtual island paradise by learning and teaching yoga moves, curing customer ailments and gaining virtues through quests.
The Yoga Retreat game is to be unleashed on Facebook August 6th. Hide your idle hands and minds.

I watched the video and it made yoga look like the most boring thing in the whole world. Not to mention that it made it look like could be done like any other thing in the world. All of the depth was taken out of yoga. Is it okay I feel they just made yoga into a sad joke? Also, did you see what huffington post had to say? (Thank god he is on our side) http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2012/08/02/yoga-retreat-facebook-game_n_1729086.html The following the cat teach you yoga thing is a bit insulting. Not to mention the whole coin system. I am open to being corrected about not being okay with this game. And I will admit, it is “just” a game, but for those of us believing in yoga as a life changing, way of life and lifestyle, I’m a bit mad.
I tried the beta version….total waste of time! Yoga…in a game form?! Who thinks up this crap?! And that is what this game is. If you want to really experience Yoga get off your computer and experience it with other like minded Yogis! A computer game can’t give you the Yoga experience.
Does virtual yoga lead to virtual enlightenment?
Haha, I do tend to agree with the other comments but at the same time… I’ll probably get this. Its a bit of silly fun, and if it gets people to a yoga class where they can learn a little more, take it a little deeper, then fab.
If it gives me a little harmless distraction and a laugh then thats ok by me!
