Earlier this month, Yogis led by Off the Mat’s Seane Corn descended on #OccupyWallSt to demonstrate their support for “Love. Justice. Unity.” Other celebriyogs like Russell Simmons, Deepak Chopra and yoga hootenannier Michael Franti joined the cause. Next Tuesday the Off the Mat team moves to #OccupyLA and they’ve recruited a slew of festival headlining yogis to take action on the streets.  Other big names have yet to make an appearance – J Fri? Who else will show?

Here’s the official notice:

On Tuesday, November 1st the LA yoga community is coming together to Occupy LA. Join Seane Corn, Hala Khouri, Suzanne Sterling, Saul David Raye, Julian Walker, Ashley Turner, Vytas Butkowkis, Mia Togo, Ally Hamilton, Brock Cahill, Krista Cahill, Gayatri, James Brown, and many others as we gather in solidarity to support a movement of freedom and justice.

The process of yoga encourages us to find our voice, speak our truth, and play our part. It is important that we embody this practice off the mat in the way that we participate and take action. Our intention next Tuesday is not about being “for” or “against,” but to demonstrate unity, awareness, and action through yoga, ritual, and collaboration. It is about being 100% present and committed to bringing about equality and positive change.

We hope you’ll join us as we stand as ONE to lend our voice, practice yoga, and work together towards change.

***The occupiers in LA need tents, sleeping bags, blankets, yoga mats, and food. Anything you can provide helps.

  • I wish I could be in LA for this event. We should defintiely do something similar here in Miami and everywhere else. Wonderful!
