Thousands Yoga Under Eiffel Tower for Non-Violence (photos + video)

in Events, Public Display of Yoga, World News, YD News

As it turns out the maven of mass yoga, Elena Brower, can draw a crowd anywhere! Oui oui. Approximately 2,000-3,000 yogis showed up all dressed in white to practice yoga under the Eiffel Tower in Paris on Sunday October 2nd. It was France’s largest ever yoga session led by the “célèbre yogi New Yorkaise” in honor of Mahatma Gandhi’s birthday and the UN International Day of Non-Violence. And they’re out for the world record next year, New York.

No big yoga teacher names have stepped up for non-violent, civil yogabedience at #OccupyWallSt, but perhaps that’s for the better right now. C’est la vie!

Pretty fantastic for sure. What do these mass yoga events mean for you?

  • nice shots from paris! where’s the accordian music? 😉 yep, all kinds of ways to protest or make a positive stmt, plus the weather looks great!

  • Confirmed, the weather IS great around these latitudes… until tomorrow 😉
I should think about an accordion soundtrack for my yoga classes and plan a US tour, “ze yogini from France, come and join us for a magnifique yoga class, oh lala!” (I gathered you US peeps like that “oh lala” thing :D). Maybe Elena Brower could give me some tips about attracting that many people (not that I would really want this though).

    🙂

    • come to my part of vermont, sheila is 1/2 french and can do the oh lala part 😉 oh, now she’s saying that over and over! 😉

  • Banana Republic Resident

    Most awesome!!

  • Thank you YogaDork as ever for making the time to cover that magical morning. Accordion is actually a contrabasse, a standing bass, played by Garth Stevenson, with whom I’ve been working for 3+ years. He plays alot in my local classes in NYC and it’s always poetic and gorgeous. http://garthstevenson.com – his latest CD “Flying” is incredible.

For me, these big gatherings are really about sharing space and healing together, getting more intentional in our practice, in our families, and in our own bodies. It’s always incredible whether we have 3 people or 3000 people, to feel the shared resonance.

    RESPECT, YogaDork!

    Very Nice !

    Very heartening to see this.

Hope the Parisian Yoga-practitioners have remembered to include ” Vegetarianism “, as they journey towards the Light, towards Non-Violence ( Ahimsa).

    The Mahatma would have approved.

Nothing says ‘Violence’ like a killed-animal.

  • for me these large scale yoga events are about uniting at a level deeper than words and treats. they are simply about connecting in oneness and feeling the truth of our shared spirit. om namah sivayah!
