Attention Soccer Fans and Americans! You may already know the USA has made it into the FIFA Womens World Cup! Yay! The first time since 1999 – woohooo! However, you may be unaware of the fact that Hope Solo, only the best goalkeeper in women’s soccer, is a total yogadork! (exclamation=excitement)
YD has learned that THE awesomest keeper out there gleans her keen nimble abilities from a regular yoga practice. Via Nike Women:
“As an athlete i like to keep my speed and my agility, and that dynamic part of who I am. A lot of times simple stretching takes away from your speed, so for me dynamic yoga gives me the ability and empowers me to keep my speed and elongate my muscles.
Several years ago it wasn’t as popular for professional athletes to do. Now you’ll find this day and age people are really starting to realize it really benefits them on the field.”
Says Hope Solo, American athlete celebriyogi superstar! Bonus: Hope’s sister Teresa is a yoga teacher back home in Washington State.
While we’re not regular soccer fiends, we can’t wait to catch the USA team in action this Sunday when they match up against Japan for the 2011 World Cup title. It’s Japan’s first time in the World Cup, so we’re excited for both squads to bring it. Go team!
Nike actually has their own branded Dynamic Yoga training program. Other fans: tennis star Maria Sharapova and surfer Monyca Byrne Wickey.
Thanks to Bonnie for the tip!
