It’s Earth Day, Again! What To Do?

in YD News

Is it Earth Day AGAIN? already? Didn’t we do this last year? Oh right, we should be celebrating, and minding, our Earth every day. After all we salute the sun and moon, why not the ‘ol third rock, the one we live on! Of course, we here at YD are devoted Pale Blue Dot Day-ers. And to think, Earth Day started as a special holiday just a little over 40 years ago. Before then, April was just for foolin’ and tax headaches!

So, since we’re all in the Mother Earth lovin’ spirit, what can we do to take care of our precious home planet?  Here’s a helpful cheat sheet to get started:

Wear’s Your Eco: FitSugar has a wee list of eco-friendly yoga clothes featuring goods from prAna, Restore clothing, Alo, Ibex, and Bamboosa.

Also recommended are threads by Karma Warrior – organic cotton, conscious messages, and 12% of your purchase is donated to charity. Read their FAQ.

Out on a Limb: Trees for Tibet is a micro-funding, sustainability, and community-building project sponsored by the Himalayan Institute.

Cleaning Green: According to the New York Times, due to economic difficulties folks are cutting back spending in the once-booming mean green cleaning product market. Apparently, nowadays, shelling out an extra buck on eco-friendly bathroom cleaner is only a good idea when you’re not cashing in loose change for a Starbucks fix. Should we all stick to vinegar, lemons and baking soda? Oy.

Tip: Stinky yoga mat?  Add 1 part vinegar, 3 parts water and 10 drops of tea tree essential oil together in a spray bottle. Voila!

Read more! If anyone can beat Treehugger’s Earth Day coverage, we’ll eat our Easter bonnets, made out of eco-friendly, organic, corn syrup free, gluten free, soy free, fair trade, chocolate. mmm. chocolate.

Whether you’re planting a tree or planting your feet down for tree pose, enjoy your weekend, and stay conscious yogsters!

Good post! Personally I prefer general cleaning. We have big house and it usually require a lot of time and nerves:) But recently we decided to buy new good electric pressure washer, with it help I can wash so many things! It is also compact and really easy to store. Here you can read full review about this device – Sun Joe SPX3000.
