Beware of disgruntled spray-paint wielding (possibly drunk) yogis!
The latest from Sacramento is reports of Zuda Yoga Studio being vandalized with lots of colorfully crude graffiti, toilet paper and piles of garbage. Also a broken window and a “glue-like substance” stuck in the door handles! No it wasn’t Lady Gaga having a yogadiva moment. So WHO could do such a dastardly thing?
The petulant perp is none other than a local yogi! Police used the old toilet paper stuck to the shoe trick (sorta) to find their vandal, where a stream of TP led them to arrest 54-year-old Lynda Briney early Wednesday morning.
But WHY would she do such a dastardly thing?
Police have not confirmed motives, but Zuda Yoga employees say it was some form of vengeance after Briney was turned away from a yoga class on Tuesday because “she appeared to be ‘drunk or unbalanced’.” Oh man, she needed yoga more than ever! But instead of going for a centering vrksasana with a sobering at-home practice, Briney dug deep for the garbage cans! And will most likely be finding her ‘om’ in jail. At the time of this post Briney is being held in the Sacramento County Main Jail on felony vandalism charges. Her bail is set at $5,000.
Sheesh, from murder, to attempted murder, to lewd acts of drunken vandalism, our Yoga Crime blotter has been off the charts lately!
here’s video, it may take a few mins to load…
people get pissed about yoga. SERIOUSLY pissed! as if that studio could take the risk of a drunk woman in class. better to use your insurance to repair vandalism than for a liability suit if she injured herself or anyone else in class while drunk!
Interesting. I don’t believe I’ve ever seen anyone practice yoga drunk.
On another note, we should send Lynda yoga DVDs in jail. She REALLY needs her practice. 🙂
YIKES! I dunno about the vandalism but I can believe the drunkenness! I myself have encountered a drunk yogi who came for class one night reeking and shouting. The teach told me to let him in and he seemed to behave once on the mat. I just felt sorry for the other yogis that had to smell him for the whole practice.
I have seen people that were ‘unbalanced’ in class. I dont think that they were on booze but I do think that they were on some pills.
I dont get why you would come to class like that though. I always feel like I have had something better happen during class then a good buzz.
I was once tipsy before yoga class…those balances were tough stuff!
Never seen a drunk in a yoga class, now yogis outside the ashram who have been drinking a bit much… yes.
“I don’t believe I’ve ever seen anyone practice yoga drunk.”
I have. I used to teach at a studio where the owner is an alcoholic. She once walked into one of my workshops 20 minutes late stoned out of her gourd and took the workshop. She also taught drunk more than a few times. Me and two other teachers tried an intervention — didn’t work because she was drunk when we showed up.
Needless to say, I quit. She’s been in and out of rehab and I heard she still has her ups and downs. And now she is expanding her studio.
