Easter Bunnies and Obama Yogis!

in YD News

easter_whatIt’s Friday! That’s great! Or maybe just “Good”? get it? Whatever your plans for the weekend we hope you take the time to reflect on what’s most important, sunshine, savasana and treats! (kidding! sorta) Seriously though, if you want to dork out about the origin of “Easter”, or “Eastre” as the goddess was known in pagan traditions (yep, pagan. goddess.), check out yoga crone Cora Wen’s fantastic believe-it-or-not article on the Rites of Spring and what the jack rabbit is up with bunnies and eggs.

Meanwhile, we’ll be anxiously awaiting the staged publicity shots of the Obamas doing yoga! Hey, the girls tried it out for last year’s Easter Egg Roll and judging by the schedule of events, the First Lady Michelle Obama‘s pet mission to get kids movin’ (and her penchant for stretchy pants!) we’re feeling pretty good about it.

The event will feature live music, sports courts, cooking stations, storytelling and, of course, Easter egg rolling. All of the activities will encourage children to lead healthy and active lives and follow the First Lady’s ‘Let’s Move!’ initiative, a national campaign to combat childhood obesity.

Yes, yoga is perfect for the kiddies! But who, oh who could lead the presidential down dogs? Here’s looking at you YAMA!

Also, J.K. Rowling is slated to read to the 12 and under crowd (of like 30,000), so something will be needed to calm the sugar rush.

  • I love easter and it’s mash-up of springtime iconography! I love it even more this weekend because I’m taking a David Swenson workshop. Today he imitated KPJ correcting him, saying “David, bad man.” Ha ha!

  • I had a fantastic Easter weekend! I took an intensive with the fantastic and very funny Eric Schiffmann at Kripalu Center in Massachusetts. On Easter morning, her told us that very same joke about the two chocolate bunnies. Maybe he was reading your blog before he started teaching :))))
