Remember all that hubbub over NY State trying to regulate yoga studios and enforce licensing fees for teacher training programs? Well the end of ’09 saw the shiny light of victory with the swift and nimble action taken by the newly formed org, Yoga For NY. While the decision’s been halted in Albany, and the threat of $50,000 fines dropped, there still looms the possibility of bureaucratic regulation by the government should the proposed bill to exempt yoga get the dreaded kibosh. And so, in order to continue the fight, Yoga For NY has organized a benefit party to raise moolah and keep the lobby alive! Read on for details…prizes! open bar! If you have the cheddar, help make NY better…for yoga! (thought of that ourselves, thanks)
Yoga for New York is throwing a Benefit Party on Thursday, January 21, 2010.
6:30pm-8:30pm
Cibo Restaurant
767 2nd Ave
New York, NY
All proceeds will go towards our advocacy work in Albany. We are working hard to pass the bill exempting studios from the state’s proposed $5,000 fee.
It’s a party for a good cause. We’ll have an open bar, and a silent auction. Winners walk away with either:
— One week at an Italian Villa (9 bedrooms) in Altomonte, Calabria, Italy
— Dinner for two at Da Marino’s, with Dominic Chianese (“Uncle Jr.” from the Sopranos!)
— A portrait on canvas ($5,000 value) at Kramer portraits
— One weekend for two at Ananda Ashram in Monroe, NY
— Memberships to New York Yoga, Om Factory, Pure Yoga, or Crunch Gym
— One surfing and yoga day clinic in Montauk
and a whole lot more.
A special entry rate of $75 for yoga teachers is available until January 18th.
The event donation for all other participants is $100 prior to the event, or $125 at the door.
Open bar included.
