OMG. This is YogaPop retro style. Meet Elvis “the pelvis” Presley in an entertaining turn at Yoga in the 1967 film Easy Come, Easy Go.
Watch Elvis Presley in “Yoga Is As Yoga Does” written by Gerald Nelson and Fred Burch. (scroll down for the lyrics and official release version found on the I Got Lucky LP and Easy Come, Easy Go/Speedway soundtrack compilation. yes really)
Sure the film’s tagline is “Skindiving for treasure, adventure and fun!!!” and comes replete with a glowing imdb.com user review warning “it’s not as unwatchable as Harum Scarum.” Still, it’s Elvis! Doing yoga! Sorta. Besides, do we really watch his movies for the plot lines and stellar acting? You know what though? He’s not half bad..it’s Elvis!
BONUS: LP version
“Yoga Is As Yoga Does” Lyrics
Well I can see that you and yoga will never do
Yoga is as yoga does there’s no in-between
Your either with it on the ball
or you’ve blown the scene
I can see lookin’ at you, you just can’t get settled
How can I even move, twisted like a pretzel
(Yoga is, yoga does)
(There’s no in-between)
(Your either with it all the way)
Or you’ve blown the scene
(Or you’ve blown the scene)
Come on come on, untwist my legs
Pull my arms a lot
How did I get so tied up
In this yoga knot
You tell me just how
I can take this yoga serious
When all it ever gives to me
is a pain in my posterious
(Yoga is, yoga does)
(There’s no in-between)
(Your either with it all the way)
Or you’ve blown the scene
(Or you’ve blown the scene)
Stand upside down on your head,
feet against the wall
A simple yoga exercise done by one and all
Now cross your eyes and hold your breath,
look just like a clown
Yoga’s sure to catch you if you come falling down
(Yoga is, yoga does)
(There’s no in-between)
(Your either with it all the way)
Or you’ve blown the scene
(Or you’ve blown the scene)
(Yoga is, yoga does)
(There’s no in-between)
(Your either with it all the way)
Or you’ve blown the scene
(Or you’ve blown the scene)

Actually Linda covered this a couple of years ago http://lindasyoga.blogspot.com/2007_10_01_archive.html
I do see it cropping up from time to time on Facebook. But what you might not know is that Elvis was reading Krishnamurti, Yogananda, Chogyam Trungpa.

guess souljerky is the real sleuth. what a gem.
and now it shall live on in the archives of yogadork.com. ah the internets .
Credit where credit’s due. I just say this on Elephant Journal yesterday:

This is hilarious and enlightening! I just didn’t know that Yoga as workout routine was so advanced it could be spoofed at such an early date.
The fact that this film came out in 1967 is actually an excellent history lesson for those who tend to stereotype the late ’60s. There were a lot of things going on back then, not just the Beatles, Viet Nam and Woodstock!
YogaDawg, I really need to know-was Elvis really reading all that stuff, or did you make that up? (Sorry to accuse you of making stuff up.)

Just blogged this over at http://yoga.about.com. I love it!
Thanks for the cred where cred due, Bob. Love Elvis, love yoga, never thought the twain would meet! What a world.
Actually, I saw Elvis do Yoga a couple of days ago thanks to your post on Yoga, Inc.. I thought everyone knew this scene already so I didn’t dare to say anything 😉
Love the Elvis Clip. Thank you for finding it!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! This is totally awesome!!!!
Entering a new school, Milam, for sixth grade in September 1946, Presley was regarded as a loner. The following year, he began bringing his guitar in on a daily basis. He played and sang during lunchtime, and was often teased as a “trashy” kid who played hillbilly music. The family was by then living in a largely African-American neighborhood.:..
