NYC Summer Streets: Free to Roam, Free to Yoga

in Events, Public Display of Yoga, YD News

summer-streets-nyc-2008Hey New Yorkers, Summer Streets is on the march again!

If you have no idea what we’re talking about here’s the gist, Summer Streets is a program Mayor Bloomie launched last August whereby a huge stretch of NYC pavement is shut down to vehicles and overrun by pedestrians, bicyclists, rollerbladers, baby carriages, etc. – not unlike a normal day! Except on Summer Streets Saturdays you won’t run the risk of getting plowed over by a cab, at least between the hours of 7am and 1pm.

Similar to last year, the fest runs for 3 consecutive Saturdays (8th, 15th, 22nd) in August and stretches from Brooklyn Bridge all the way to Central Park. It’s rather incredible really. And FREE for everyone with a bike, skates, even old fashioned feet.

Why do yogadorks care? Early risers can try the free yoga and pilates classes offered by Crunch. You morning snoozers can stop by for the ‘beach body’, ‘retro-robics’ and ‘tribal house party’ (real classes).

Here’s your yoga and pilates schedule (dunno what that performance is all about):

8:00am – 8:30am     Sunrise Salutations – Class     12th St. between 4th & 3rd Ave.
8:30am – 9:00am     10-Spot Pilates –
Class      12th St. between 4th & 3rd Ave
9:00am – 9:30am     Yoga Body Sculpt –
Performance    12th St. between 4th & 3rd Ave
9:30am – 10:00am     Burn & Firm Pilates –
Class    12th St. between 4th & 3rd Ave

We mostly missed it last year… either being previously engaged, sleeping through it or just plain forgetting. oops. But we are so set on attending this year.. so set..er wait, it’s this Sat? the 8th? Man we are totally up for the 15th! swear.

Check more details at nyc.gov/summerstreets and the full schedule of events. Non-Manhattan folks can enjoy the coinciding events in all 5 boroughs.
