Ryan Kwanten plays Sookie Stackhouse’s creepo murdering brother on the HBO vamp-drama “True Blood.” You may have noticed he’s rather a fit fellow, and that’s not just from wrestling with vampires – he’s a yogi! Featured on the cover of Muscle & Body (June 09 issue) Kwanten gets physical and explains his muscle and body cover worthiness.
On his girlie yoga introduction: “I come from a somewhat of a macho background when it comes to sports,” says the former boxer. “When a friend of mine suggested I try yoga to help with flexibility, I said, ‘No, that’s more for the girls. It’s not my cup of tea.’ But I tried it and it beat me up.”
On “sinking his teeth” into it: “That first class I was looking across the room and seeing girls and even guys putting their feet behind their heads, and I thought, Wow, that’s where I want to be. And I’m sort of naturally competitive, so once I sink my teeth into something I’m not going to let go.”
Apparently that was four years ago and now Kwanten can actually consider himself a Vinyasa yoga practitioner AND a teacher (says so right on his “True Blood” bio). This dude is an all around fitness fanatic, participating in biathlons, triathlons and pretty much every physical activity known to man! And with yoga he finds the balance between blood cleansing and blood sucking. Ew. (he doesn’t actually play a vampire though, sadly enough)
Kwanten also mentioned yoga in his June interview in Womens Health Mag
