And then there were more…
We had some lengthy words about the new-ish yoga studio business model, Pay-By-Donation, and wondered, will it work? Can studios really survive on the pay-what-you-wish method hoping that the “wishes” of patrons actually amount to $$ to cover expenses? Does the Recession help or hurt the cause? Well, all of the answers to those questions will surely come out in the wash sooner or later, no one’s found a money tree yet. And perhaps the best Yoga-neers to shed some light on the subject are the ones diving into Donation Yoga head first. Because, it’s catching on…
Cambio Studio in Colorado Springs, CO will have its grand opening next week, June 19th. It’s completely Pay-By-Donation.
“There’s no membership fee. It’s free to come. You can donate what you can and if that means just the change in your pocket, then that’s wonderful,” says Amber Richman (co-owner with Cassandra Green).
“A lot of people say, ‘Are you crazy? You’re starting a new business and you’re not charging?’ But, I believe it’s intuitive to open this place. People still want to do yoga.”
They BELIEVE it will work and people will contribute! And their mission sure makes you feel like a real A-hole if you don’t:
We believe in the goodness of the universe and people. We also realize that there is a reciprocal bond between our students and us–we couldn’t offer classes without their ongoing generosity. We are all in this together.
It’s true. Build it and they will come? (with donations hopefully).
For you Coloradans (?) check out the Grand Opening of Cambio. next Friday. We wish them the best of luck. From what we’ve heard, CO kids are pretty nice people.

Earlier…Pay By Donation: An Experiment In Affordable Yoga (Not for Yuppies)
It is a good approach that Cambio Studio has taken by asking for donations, instead of charging for subscriptions. This is in keeping with the spirit of Yoga to free the mind of this materialistic world that keeps people tossing around…
