[Because It’s Wednesday]: India Would Like to Buy the World a Bottle of Cow Urine

in Because It’s…, YD News

cowurine_standAnd now for your India news. According to Hindu traditions, cows are sacred, and according to the country’s largest nationalist group, their, ah, excrement is  perfect as a household disinfectant, and the urine a cure for ailments like liver disease and even cancer.  So why not do the only natural next step and bottle the stuff! Surely Indians will choose cow urine over Coke!

Om Prakash, the head of the department, said the drink – called “gau jal”, or “cow water” – in Sanskrit was undergoing laboratory tests and would be launched “very soon, maybe by the end of this year”.

“Don’t worry, it won’t smell like urine and will be tasty too,” he told The Times from his headquarters in Hardwar, one of four holy cities on the River Ganges. “Its USP will be that it’s going to be very healthy. It won’t be like carbonated drinks and would be devoid of any toxins.”

Soda sure is sticky gunk, and we haven’t had the opportunity to sip any gau jal ourselves, but if you’re trying to battle the sweet stuff perhaps cow pee isn’t the best alternative? Assuming these cows are grass-fed (hopefully). Still we can’t wait to see the marketing campaign. (it seems it’s already available at your local market)
