Watery Debate: Drinking in Yoga Class

in YD News

It’s not you, it’s me… The Great Water and Yoga Balancing Act

“Dear water, vital to our existence, the single most important thing we need to survive. How we cherish thy ability to quench our persistent thirst and cool our parched tongues. When we’re being healthy we drink glasses of you, at least 8 to 10, a day! But, we have to tell you, we need some space, particularly during yoga class. The hour and a half will be tough, we know, but it doesn’t mean we don’t love you.”

Granted some people may need the extra fluids during a vigorus and sweaty yoga class, perhaps, but there are a few plausible reasons to give the beloved water bottle a rest during practice. One, water douses the fire and heat you’re building up to release toxins. Two, water breaks are a distraction and just get in the way – of your breathing, your poses, and your classmates. And besides all that, nothing’s worse than having to pee the whole time!

Read part 1 of a 2-part article about drinking water during yoga, with advice from a non-expert Marketing Director of a (overpriced) bottled water company. Not exactly an unbiased opinion, and if you ask us, these Ad-itorials are quite tiresome, eh?
