It’s Blackout Sabbath time y’all! If you’re wondering what the hoot that means, Blackout Sabbath is an energy-saving initiative conceived by brilliant songwriter Rufus Wainwright. Inspired by the Blackout of 2003, and in light of global warming, Rufus declared the summer solstice a day of celebration, and conservation by asking us to flip the switch, unplug all of our appliances and live the day with as little dependency on energy as possible. Check out blackoutsabbath.org for more info.
…and now the yoga!
Rufus Wainwright’s personal yoga instructor (yes THE yogi he gave credit to every night of his Release the Stars tour for his toned gams, which he displayed during the over the top Judy Garland encore – see above photo), Zelina Blagden, will be leading a yoga practice at YogaWorks Downtown studio to mark the inaugural event.
The description on YogaWorks website says:
“You’ll be lead through a gentle flow, followed by a luxurious meditation and sivasana. The end of class will be devoted to creating a personal “to-do” list for the earth.”
