Alan Finger has a long history in the yoga world as one of the founders of YogaWorks and creator of his own style of yoga called Ishta. And so it is no big surprise that he has made the move to open a brand new studio, naming it after his own method. Ishta is described by Finger as having a two-fold meaning: 1. Sanskrit word meaning that which resonates with an individual’s spirit; 2. An acronym for the Integrated Science of Hatha, Tantra and Ayurveda.
We haven’t seen the studio yet, (11th St between University and Broadway), but the website boasts an ayurvedic spa that sounds quite inviting, not to mention some of NY’s best teachers (Sarah Platt, Jean Koerner, upandcomer Marco Rojas). Classes start May 1 and the full schedule should be up on the site soon. Other offerings include workshops, retreats, and teacher training with much more to come we’re sure.
